Leanore started writing at age eight. She waited 30 years to be an author. In 2010, she penned 10 novels. 9 were contracted and released within a years time. So far in 2011, she has written four more. Writing is like breathing, she says. "A necessary obsession." Married for a long time to her true love, she's blessed with a huge family and many joys.
SATIN- Hi Bonnie i want to take a min to say thank you for taking time out of your busy life to talk to me and my followers. First of all can you tell me how you got into writing, what made you sit up and think this is what i wanna do with my life.
BONNIE- At eight years old I wrote my first story. It was about a turtle named lolipop.Later on, it was other books that made me sit up and say, I wanna do this!
SATIN- Can you please tell me what your working on right now.
BONNIE- Well, in the last 15 months, I wrote 14 books, so I've been with them in various stages: Re-writes, editing with editors, formatting and releases. However, I have started a new one and I believe it's about Dream Jumping. I say 'beleieve' because my muse Leanore will decide where it will ultimately go.
SATIN- what was the hardest part of writing your books and why? do you wish you could change anything , or are you happy with things the way they are.
BONNIE- Learning how to write---the RIGHT way. I spent a year with 9 different pro editors and I picked their brains, asking endless questions. I was determined to write like a pro.Change something? With my new skills, I want to re-write everything I've already penned. I have done that with most of them. But there are some I can't re-do, because they are out with publishers already.
SATIN- ,is there any other authors who have inspired your work. and what advise do you give others out there who are trying to make it in your line of work.
BONNIE- I have a couple of idols, all right. One is an Indy writer who has broken all the molds and built her own following from the ground up, and along the way, she stops and helps other writers. Melanie Nowak of 'Almost Human'; her books are phenomenal and her following is sensational. The other one? Kate Richards and she is traditionally published. She's a hero to me as well, an excellent writer and awesome author but as an editor, she brought me and Leanore to the bar of excellence.
And that brings me to the advice.:Even if you are the best storyteller out there?Get your skills honed, study every great book and writer whom you admire. Get your grammar, dialog and POV's straight. Learn all the aspects of fine writing, and then pen your book 'OR' re-pen it. The readers will not take to sloppiness, bad presentation and the like. Those bad reviews for your new book, that you created with the sweat of your brow?It will hurt you in more ways than one.
SATIN- can you tell me what your next project is. and how do you come up with the ideas for your books, what comes first, the characters or the story.
SATIN- can you tell me what your next project is. and how do you come up with the ideas for your books, what comes first, the characters or the story.
BONNIE-It comes in a dream. Sometimes, I actually dream the characters. Then, I get on word office and the story unfolds. I almost always have the title up front, when I begin. But I honestly, never know where it's going to go. This is why I refer to Leanore as a different being other than myself. She spins these stories as I run to catch up with her and I do all the editing and presentation. But on the upside? I get to read it at the same time and a lot of times I will gasp and say, "I never saw that coming!"
SATIN- we all have really bad days when our brains dont want to work *cough* me* cough* can you tell me what you do when this happens to you.
SATIN- we all have really bad days when our brains dont want to work *cough* me* cough* can you tell me what you do when this happens to you.
BOONIE- When I go to write it's like a channeling and it flows out, despite what other things are going on in my life. If I'm not feeling well, I don't channel. I go and promote or I work on covers and other project aspects. But I never let a day go by without working on this obsessive dream. I have a saying: "A day without books? Is a day wasted."
SATIN- OK here comes my favourite question, we all have our favourite book guys/girls, can you tell me who floats your boat and why.
SATIN- OK here comes my favourite question, we all have our favourite book guys/girls, can you tell me who floats your boat and why.
BONNIE- If you mean in general? I am boring in that section, because I don't read anything in length, since I began to write seriously 6 years now, it's been. Even if you mean from my own stories, it would be hard to choose. I've written some really sexy guys, hot beasts, sweet, yummy angel men and some sensual alpha males. My choice would be Reeves from the Soul Trilogy, the very first male character I ever wrote back in 1997, because I could even hear his deep voice in my dreams.
SATIN- again i want to take the time to thank you for talking with us, is there anything you would like to say to my followers and future fans.
BONNIE-I want to tell them why I really do this. It's not for fame or money or to stroke my own ego. I found that it was for connection. When you read a story that Leanore and I have penned? You are there with us, on a journey to laugh, gasp and sigh together. Now that's what really gets me! I also love for readers to write me with feedback on the stories, nothing thrills me more.
Thanks Satin Sue for having me here, and remember everyone: "A day without books? Is a day wasted."

ReplyDeleteWonderful interview ladies! I really enjoyed the last part about taking a journey together. That is such a true statement. Whether it be with the author or reading buddies you connect over the common adventure that reading the same book creates. I've made some amazing friends/kinkbags through GR that I've never met IRL but are always in my thoughts all because of books and reading.
ReplyDeleteInspiring interview ladies! Bonnie - thank you for your kind words. I am equally inspired by you - your determination, creative flow and unstoppable attitude is truly something to behild. The "Captive Souls" website that you have created to promote so many other authors is such an amazing accomplishment. I am proud to consider you a friend. Best wishes in not only your career friend, but in life always! Love!
ReplyDeleteOOps - typo above should read "Behold", LOL. By the way Bonnie - 14 books in 15 months? You surely were in a muse-induced haze, living more in fantasy than reality (wish I could be there!) and I'm sure every one of them is a unique, intriguing and sizzling gem! I am in awe! Happy writing!
ReplyDeleteThere she is, one of my hero's and if any of Sue's blog readers want a Vamp series that will hook them? Look for Almost Human, it has literally hundreds of fans!
