Description: In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Review:   We start of in this book with a power struggle as the Lightwoods try to take over the institute  but Charlotte and Henry are given a chance to prove they are capable in running the institute but they have to find a mad man called the magister (mortimain)  and undo all the wrongs he did in the first book. Once back at the institute everyone hits the book to try and find out as much information as they can on the madman and as much as possible to help them find him. Will and Jem and Tessa go on a trip to Yorkshire to visit an old shadow hunter in search of more information but Will gets a shock when someone from his past coming walking back into his life. We then get to learn more about his past and the curse that stops him from letting anyone close to him and why he keeps pushing people away. And why he cant admit his love for Tessa.  While this is going on  there is a spy in the institute reporting everything to  the magister and we all so find out that there is more behind the lightwoods wanting Charlotte out of the institute and why his wife killed herself.  Things then get even more complicated for the love triangle that is Will, Jem and Tessa when Jem asks Tessa to marry him and she says yes. This has me screaming at the book because I so wanted Tessa to be with will.

This book filled with drama with clockwork men and demon chases , there was some really funny moments and some really thoughtful moments that all most had you crying. Im gonna have to admit that iv fell in love with will even more after reading this story and finding out just how much of a bad time he has had and how much he had to keep people at arms lengh  to keep them safe. and when he finaly gets to tell Tessa how he feels  only to find she is engaged to Jem. This is a series that I would tell people they should pick up and read because i know you wont be able to put it down. its for all ages young and old so please give it a try I now you wont be disapointed .
