Future Deemed
By: B Truly
I have very vivid dreams, so déjà vu and premonition have always been intriguing to me. It happens often, and I try not to look too hard into it, but I myself have déjà vu. When I started writing the Sonar Series, the main concepts of the story were about amnesia, fate, and destiny. Déjà vu worked well since the characters had amnesia and begun having strange dreams. I love metaphors, and in writing a series, I like to have relating concepts in each story. Sonar The Crashing, book one, focused on déjà vu. Upon laying out the plot for book two, Sonar The Cyclone, I decided premonition would be a great concept. It related to déjà vu in the first novel. One important element of creating a story is building conflict. Being that premonition is a forewarning of the future, I was able to use that to my advantage. In the beginning of Sonar The Cyclone, Syria is shown a premonition. It is one that she can’t accept. She believes the future has been shown to her for a reason. That reason being that she must change it. Sonar The Cyclone’s overriding question is, can a person choose their own path, or does fate decide it for you? Syira and her family must decide if fate is something they cannot control? Or is fate in the hands of what they behold?
